David Luiz Moreira Marinho popularly known as David Luiz was born on the 22nd of April 1987. Luiz is a professional footballer who plays for a french side Paris Saint-Germain and also serve as the vice-captain for the Brazil national team. Naturally a central defender, he also can play as a defensive midfielder when deployed.
Luiz was born in Diadema, Sao Paulo, he arrived in Esporte Clube Vitoria after being released by Sao Paulo FC. He started playing as a defensive midfielder, his poor performance as a DMF almost saw him leave the club. However, he was being moved to central defence where he adapted well. Luiz made played his first match for Vitoria in a 2-2 draw against Santa Cruz Futebol Clube in 2006. Vitoria eventually promoted from the third division to the second division, with David Luiz featuring in eight of the club’s final nine decisive games. He scored his only league goal in a 2-0 home win over Clube Atletico do Porto on 3rd of September 2006.
David Luiz then joined Portuguese giant Benfica on 30 January 2007 as a replacement for Ricardo Rocha who was on his way to Tottenham Hotspur, on loan. He made an uproar debut for the club against Paris Saint-Germain in a UEFA Cup match at the Parc des Princes, replacing injured Luisao in the central defence. Benfica lost the match with two goals to one, but somehow made it to the next round after winning with four goals to three on aggregate. He made his first league match debut on 12 March 2007 for Benfica against Uniao de Leiria. At the end of the season, Luiz signed a 5-year deal with Benfica and as the season ended, he joined permanently for €1.5 million. David Luiz became the a symbol in the club when Jorge Jesus arrived at the start of 2009-10 season. He made 49 appearance as the club went on to win the league and was named the season’s best player.
David Luiz’s performance attracted Chelsea and he completed a move on 30 January 2011, a five and a half year deal which also saw Nemanja Matic move to Benfica. Luiz made his first premier league appearance on February 6, coming on as a substitute for Jose Bosingwa in a 0-1 home defeat to Liverpool. The following weekend, he made his first Chelsea start in a 0-0 draw away to Fulham. Luiz was quick in registering himself in the heart of Chelsea fans by putting up a man of the match performance. He went on to win the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions league with Chelsea.
In June 2014, Luiz completed a €62 million (£50 million) move from Chelsea to Paris Saint-Germain which is a world record transfer for a defender. He won all the four domestic competitions with PSG in his debut season.
Internationally, Luiz made his debut in 2010 for the Brazil national team and he has since then earned over 50 international caps. He was part of the Brazil team that won the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and got to the 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-finals.
