Thiago Emiliano Silva popularly known as Thiago Silva. Arguably the best defender in the game now. He is born on the 22nd of September 1984 in Brazil. The Brazilian born professional footballer plays as a central defender for the Brazilian national team and french club Paris Saint-Germain.

As a young player, Thiago Silva was admitted into a school in the Campo Grande neighborhood of Rio (a school for fluminense youngsters). At just 14, Silva caught the eye of Fluminense’s coach Maurinho during a friendly match in Xerem. He was asked to play as a defensive midfielder during a short trial. After a couple of unsuccessful trials, Silva played in a showcase tournament in Sao Paulo and was spotted by Paulo Cesar Carpegiani, who asked him to join RS Futebol Clube in the Southern part of Brazil. In 2001, Silva became a professional and played in the Brazilian Third Division and other regional tournaments with RS Futebol’s first team. During a tournament in Ancona, Italy, Silva was scouted by the then AS Roma coach, Bruno Conti. Conti wanted him to play for AS Roma, but Silva rejected the offer.

Silva moved to Juventude in 2004 where he played for six months and during this period, he was transitioned from the midfield to defence. Silva was then signed by FC Porto for a fee of €2.5 million but played for the reserved team. After a year at Porto, he joined Dynamo Moscow, where he was diagnosed with Tuberculosis and was hospitalized. Silva returned back to football with Fluminense.

After a 5-month chase, Silva completed a move from Brazilian side Fluminense to Europen giants A.C Milan in 2009, Silva quickly established himself as one of the best defenders in the world, going on to win the Serie A title with A.C Milan in the 2010-11 season.

Thiago Silva has been regarded as a completed defender by his critics and playing mates. He has been described as a consistent defender in the game, with no flaws, and as someone who can lead any defence. A leader from the defence, Silva’s style of play has made him to be compared to Italian legend Franco Baresi. In June 2012, Baresi regarded Thiago Silva as his heir. Silva’s leadership skills are also distinct through his success in captaining Paris Saint Germain and the Brazilian national team. Silva is officially one of the best defenders in aerial duel and fastest defenders in European football. He combines his physical gifts with an outstanding tactical knowledge and intelligence of the game, also with a excellent sense of positioning. Because of this abilities, he is best at anticipating and reading plays, and is outstanding at marking down opposing players in possession of the ball. Thiago Silva is a great defender who is praised world widely and he has been voted as one of the two best central backs in Europe for three consecutive years.

In July 2012, he signed for Paris Saint-Germain for a reported fee of €42 million, making him the most expensive defender in history after Rio Ferdinand. With Paris Saint-Germain, Silva has won two consecutive Coupes de la Ligue, One Coupe de France and three consecutive Ligue 1 championships.

Internationally, Silva made is debut for Brazil in 2008 and he was a member of the team that went to play in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Silva captained Brazil to victory at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and fourth place in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, both on the Brazilian soil. He also was a part of the Brazilian squads for the two Olympic tournaments, winning a bronze in 2008 and a Silver in 2012. He has earned over 50 caps for Brazil.
